Zhen-Huan Lu

Born in Shanghai, China in 1950, Zhen-Huan Lu obtained his degree from the famous oil painting department at the Shanghai Theater Academy's Department of Scenic Design. Upon graduation he was immediately appointed to an assistant professorship in painting.  He was invited to New York in 1986 for his first solo exhibition in the United States. Soon after this, Zhen-Huan Lu moved to this country.

An accomplished painter of the American scene, Zhen-Huan Lu schooling in China was akin to a 19th century European-style academic curriculum. This disciplined background in life study and western techniques allowed the artist to develop a quintessentially American realist style, focusing on the houses and landscapes of the Eastern seaboard from Georgia to Maine. It also led him to develop equal skill in the use of watercolor, tempera, and oil, three disparate and difficult media to master.

Zhen-Huan Lu has been highly honored in recent years: he was invited to the White House by First Lady Laura Bush and was subsequently chosen as the official artist for the White House's 2002 Christmas card. His painting for that card was made part of the permanent collection of the White House and his paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and China. Lu has works in the collection of the China National Art Museum and many of his paintings are in private and public collections throughout the United States. He currently resides outside Atlanta, Georgia.

Zhen-Huan Lu’s next one-man exhibition with Hammer Galleries is scheduled for December 2007.
