Condition:

The canvas is unlined and stable on its stretcher despite minor warping at the upper right corner. A portrait image reads strongly with details in the costume and face preserved. Some retouching to address loss is visible to the naked eye, for example spots in the upper left background and an area 1-2 inches long on the sitter’s proper left leg. A repaired tear runs vertically down the length of the sitter’s chest but is not distracting. Minor frame abrasion is visible on the right edge. Under UV inspection, the aforementioned areas are visible along with scattered spots of retouching on and around the sitter’s feet and small spots on his nose, cheek, and forehead. Overall, and considering its size, the painting is in good condition. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame
