Markings:

The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is slightly dirty with a clear and even varnish. There are a few tiny, discoloured retouchings scattered in the flesh tones of the figures. These are confirmed under ultraviolet light. UV inspection reveals some more concentrated patches of retouching, notably: in the dark folds of Joseph's cloak and either side of his proper left wrist; in the Virgin's hair; in Saint Elizabeth's robe; in Saint John the Baptist's hair and loin cloth; and in the robes and hair of the angels. There is also retouching along the lower margin and to a restored damage in the lower right part of the Virgin's blue robe (measuring approx. 10 x 5cm.). There also appears to be an older campaign of wash retouching in the flesh tones of the figures. The painting appears bright and presents well, and is ready to hang.
