( Italian, Manner of 1720 - 1780 )
Dresden, a view of the old fortifications, from the south west
Materials:
oil on canvas
Measurements:
Description:
SIGN UP or LOG IN
Condition:
unframed: 94 x 126.4 cm.; 37 x 49¾ in. The canvas is lined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is discoloured and uneven. There is a degree of bituminisation in the dark pigments, particularly in the lower left corner, where the craquelure has become more defined as a result. Inspection under ultraviolet light is impeded by the opacity of the old varnish, but there appear to be small areas of retouching scattered in the sky. It is difficult to discern other intervention, but the architectural elements appear to be in good order. The painting appears to be in overall good condition.
