( Flemish, 1568 - 1625 )
View of a riverside village with figures dancing in the foreground
Materials:
oil on copper, laid on panel
Measurements:
20.47 in. (52.00 cm.) (height) by 25.83 in. (65.60 cm.) (width) by 761.50 in. (1,934.20 cm.) (width)
Edition:
The copper is laid on panel. The copper plate has lifted from the panel along the lower half of the right margin. This has created a break in the painted surface which extends to the top half of the right margin (although the copper has not lifted there). There is also a break in the painted surface along the right half of the upper margin and a small area where the paint is flaking slightly in the centre. The paint surface is clean with a clear and even varnish. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered retouchings throughout the composition with more concentrated areas along the margins, in the upper-most blue band of water centre right, and in the roof of the cottage centre left. In overall fair condition.
