Description:

or LOG IN

Markings:

signed, inscribed and dated "JEAN MICHEL BASQUIAT MODENA 1982." on the reverse

Condition:

The work is in very good condition. The canvas, twelve-member stretcher and attachments appear to be in good condition. There is fabric to reinforce the corners. There is a loose lining and padded backing board for protection. There is minor wear and a few faint abrasions with associated pinpoint paint loss to the corners. There is minor burnishing, a few very small accretions, and a few faint abrasions to the edges in places, all visible only upon close inspection. There are a few handling marks, primarily to the vertical turnover edges and minor lifting and a few very small paint losses, primarily to the extreme lower horizontal edge and center upper horizontal edge, all visible only upon close inspection. There are two fine cracks to the extreme center right edge. There is minor burnishing in places, primarily the black painted passage at center, a few pinpoint accretions in places, primarily to the left quadrant of the composition, and a very small paint loss at center, all visible only upon close inspection. There is a very small indentation to the canvas at the upper left quadrant, visible under raking light. There are a few drying cracks to the pooled impasto passages in places, with a few associated pinpoint paint losses, which remain stable and likely originate from the artist’s studio. There is a glossy appearance to some of the drying cracks in the ochre passage at right. When examined under ultraviolet light, there is no indication of inpainting.
