Edition:

The reverse of the poplar panel has battens of softwood at the sides and bottom. The front of the panel is flat with a very slight curvature towards the left. There is an old partial split down the centre, and another at the extreme lower right, and a 1 cm wide added strip along the bottom is showing signs of becoming detached. The painted surface appears to be very well preserved under a thick layer of old varnish, apart from a couple of recent areas of minor flaking visible in the reproduction. Ultra-violet light does not reveal any more recent retouching. Should benefit hugely from a simple cleaning and minor repairs as above. The tabernacle frame is not old, and has a fillet at the bottom to make the panel fit.
